Description/Purpose
This article provides general information about student devices at MCCSC, including what type of devices are issued as well as details regarding onsite and offsite network access.
Explanation/Steps
All MCCSC students in grades K-12 receive a school issued device for use with digital curriculum resources and as a learning tool for use throughout the day. Devices issued to students in grades K-5 remain at school each day while students in grades 7-12 take their devices home for use off campus. Some grade 6 students also take devices home. In the event of a school designated contingency learning plan that includes e-learning days, students in grades 3-12 will take devices home. Parents of students in Grades K-2 may request for their student to take the school device home if the day is known in advance of the closure.
MCCSC does not promote a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) learning environment as many of our resources are device and platform specific. At the high school level, we do allow students to bring their own devices, however, those devices are limited to the Guest wireless network at the school. For more information on how these devices are used in the learning environment, we encourage you to contact your student's teacher(s).
Onsite Access for Students
Students access the MCCSC wireless network each day with their school-issued device. In Grades K-8, students are issued an iPad. In Grades 9-12, MCCSC issues students a Windows laptop. Devices on campus use the student username (Skyward alphakey with a single number at the end) and their school-issued password. In grades K-6, this password also serves as the student lunch pin. In grades 7-12, students are issued a unique complex password.
Offsite Access for Students
Students may connect their school-issued devices to any wireless network. Devices are proxied back through the MCCSC content filter whether on or offsite. Device user credentials for this method may timeout when offsite and require the student to login. After connecting to a wireless network, simply navigate to any webpage and receive the Content Keeper login screen. Enter student username (without @mccsc.net or @mccsc.edu extension) and student password to authenticate. Note: If students have apps that will not load, they might need to sign into ContentKeeper.
