Description
This article provides instructions on using Snipping Tool or Windows key+Shift+S for screenshots.
Steps
Windows
- Click on Windows.
- Type Snipping Tool into search area, then hit Enter to open. Note: There is also the option to pin to taskbar if you will use this tool often.
Once Snipping Tool opens, you will click on New. - Drag and capture screen.
- There will be options including copy, highlight, erase, etc.
- Then paste screenshot into e-mail or other applications as needed.
- There is also the option to edit in Paint.
Another option is to use Snip & Sketch, which is helpful if you need a screenshot to include an open menu (difficult to capture with Snipping Tool).
- Hold Windows key+Shift+S all at once.
- Drag and capture screen.
- There will be options including copy, highlight, erase, etc.
- Then paste screenshot into e-mail or other applications as needed.
MacOS
How to take a whole screen screenshot on your Mac:
- To take a screenshot, press and hold these three keys together: Shift, Command, and 3.
- If you see a thumbnail in the corner of your screen, click it to edit the screenshot. Or wait for the screenshot to save to your desktop.
How to capture a portion of the screen:
- Press and hold these three keys together: Shift, Command, and 4.
- Drag the crosshair to select the area of the screen to capture. To move the selection, press and hold Space bar while dragging. To cancel taking the screenshot, press the Esc (Escape) key.
- Click the window or menu to capture it. To exclude the window's shadow from the screenshot, press and hold the Option key while you click.
- If you see a thumbnail in the corner of your screen, click it to edit the screenshot. Or wait for the screenshot to save to your desktop.
