Description
This article provides information on Phishing as well as instructions on how to mark suspected phishing emails.
Explanation
Phishing is a form of fraud in which an attacker masquerades as a reputable entity or person in email or other forms of communication. Attackers will commonly use phishing emails to distribute malicious links or attachments that can perform a variety of functions. Some will extract login credentials or account information from victims.
Accurate reporting of phishing email helps us maintain the security and safety of our systems. If you receive an email that you suspect to be a phishing email, please flag the email by selecting the "Phish Alert Report" button. Below are screenshots of how to find the button in various email applications.
Steps
Windows Outlook Desktop Client
- If you are using a Windows computer and are using the Outlook Full Desktop Client (downloaded on your computer), the button is to the far right of the Home ribbon as pictured below.
- It is also in the message itself, again, as pictured below.
MacOS Outlook Desktop Client
- If you are using a MacBook computer and are using the Outlook Full Desktop Client (downloaded on your computer), select the ellipsis ("...") button on the far right, the Phish Alert button is the first option in the list.
- Note: Apple Mail Client does not have the ability to flag an item as phishing. You would need to log in to Outlook Web Access to flag a suspected email.
Outlook Web Access (OWA)
- If you are accessing your email in a web browser using OWA, the icon appears in the quick access area of the message alongside the delete, reply, forward buttons as pictured below.
- If it doesn't appear as shown above, click the Apps button as pictured below.
- This article provides instruction on how to add the phish alert to the quick access toolbar.
