Description
Apple Classroom is an iPad app allows teachers to oversee student work, guide students through lessons, share resources, and sort students into groups for collaborative tasks.
Note: Trust between students and teachers and vice versa is important. Although it's nice to have the monitoring abilities Apple Classroom provides, please don't present it to students that way. Instead, let them know this is a way for teachers to share resources and provide assistance to the whole class or to individual students.
Prerequisites
-
Students and teachers MUST be connected to MCCSC Wi-Fi.
-
Bluetooth must be enabled on teacher and student devices.
- Airplane Mode cannot be turned on.
-
Apple Classroom will need about 5 minutes to locate students nearby who are rostered to your course.
Resources
- Watch the intro video.
- View the steps under Manage Your Class in this Apple guide.
How it Works
Since there are constantly students in the corporation enrolling, transferring and withdrawing, we have to upload all roster changes to Apple School Manager (ASM) daily at 4:15 PM. Our Filewave MDM Server (where all student iPads are enrolled) then is scheduled to sync with ASM at 4:30 PM to create an update. After the sync, Filewave sends a command to remove the Classroom Profile on every iPad and reinstall the updated one. Since teacher and MS student iPads leave the school and because elementary iPads are housed in carts over night, they go to sleep and drop/lose their Wi-Fi signal. This prevents the iPad from receiving the command to update the classroom profile. That's why some students show up in classroom and some don't. Once the iPads wake up, connect to Wi-Fi and receive the updated profile, they start showing up in the teacher's classroom application.
